Utah State Courts publishes a 5.51% general civil and criminal post-judgment rate for 2026 under Utah Code §15-1-4. It equals the federal post-judgment rate on January 1, 2026 (3.51%) plus two percentage points. A qualifying judgment under $10,000 involving the purchase of goods or services uses 13.51% instead, while a lawful contract can supply its agreed rate.
How Utah post-judgment interest works
Which rate applies
The 5.51% headline applies to the general civil and criminal judgment branch unless another rate is specified. Section 15-1-4 separately addresses lawful contract judgments and qualifying judgments under $10,000 involving goods or services; the latter is 13.51% for 2026.
When interest accrues
The applicable annual rate is selected by the calendar year in which judgment is entered. Utah Courts’ renewal guidance instructs filers to use the post-judgment rate in effect when the judgment was entered for the life of that judgment.
Compounding and rate lock
The official annual tables establish the percentage and major branches, but the dataset does not yet have calculator-grade day-count, compounding, partial-payment, and renewal mechanics for every Utah judgment. The calculator therefore remains safely disabled.
Official history coverage
The dataset now preserves all 34 annual rates in the official Utah Courts table from 1993 through 2026, including the court’s original display precision. The weekly pipeline checks both the current and historic court tables and can append a new year only after overlapping values and the published formulas reconcile.
