For judgments entered on or after July 1, 2026 in the current recorded half-year, Wisconsin’s post-judgment interest rate is 7.75% per year under Wis. Stat. § 815.05(8). The rate is one percentage point above the Federal Reserve H.15 bank prime rate in effect on the January 1 or July 1 immediately preceding entry of judgment, and it runs from entry until the judgment is paid.
How Wisconsin post-judgment interest works
Which rate applies
Section 815.05(8) supplies the general post-judgment rule. Wis. Stat. §807.01(4), another statute, or a distinct judgment category can supersede that path. Prejudgment interest on a verdict, decision, or report is addressed separately in §814.04(4), so the 7.75% headline is not a universal prejudgment rate.
When interest accrues
The judgment-entry date selects the controlling half-year benchmark: for January through June entries, use the H.15 bank prime rate in effect on the immediately preceding January 1; for July through December entries, use the rate in effect on the immediately preceding July 1. Add one percentage point. That selected annual rate remains fixed from entry until the judgment is paid.
Compounding and rate lock
The statute and official table establish the entry-date rate, but StatuteRates does not enable a Wisconsin payoff calculator because calculator-grade day count, compounding, partial-payment allocation, and every superseding branch have not been fully verified.
Official history coverage
The dataset preserves all 31 official half-year rows from the special December 2, 2011 Act 69 transition through the current period. The former 12% rule is retained only as pre-transition context, not as a machine history row, because its complete historical start was not established from the bounded official sources.
